photo basel is Switzerland’s first and only international art fair dedicated exclusively to photography. Held annually during Art Week in Basel alongside Art Basel, it brings together leading galleries from around the world, presenting a carefully curated selection of contemporary and vintage photographic works. The fair offers an intimate, focused atmosphere, allowing for real conversations, close viewing, and meaningful exchange with gallerists, artists, and collectors.

Why photographers should go

For photographers, photo basel is more than an art fair, it is a masterclass in visual language. You see how bodies of work are edited, printed, framed, and positioned in a curatorial context. You gain insight into pricing, editions, and collector expectations. It’s a rare opportunity to study trends in contemporary photography while engaging directly with the international art market.

Why I am going

I attend photo basel both as a photographer and as a collector since it's inauguration in 20215. As a photographer, I go to sharpen my eye, to study presentation and sequencing, and to stay connected to the evolving discourse of fine art photography. As a collector, I look for works that resonate deeply, prints that I want to live with, learn from, and support. Collecting is not separate from my practice. It is part of my artistic dialogue. By engaging with the work of others, I continuously refine my own visual voice.
